A friendship 30 yrs in the making

I can’t believe I’m old enough to say that…but anyway, I’m so excited today!! My BFF is coming to town tonight! YAY!! It’s been at least 10 years since we’ve seen each other and so much has happened over the years that it will be so nice to just sit here and catch up, and be goofy and stupid of course cause that’s what we’re good at lol.  I’m sure we’ll have lot’s of late night wine drinking and giggling AND lot’s of crying and pouring out of the hearts, but we both so needed this! We’ve both been through some rough patches and have been there to support each other and cut the BS when needed; much like we were when we were kids.

I still remember the day I met her. I was just getting out of church and she was waiting for the next service. We were all standing in the back of the church kind of shuffling in and out and I saw her standing there. I knew that she must have been a new kid because I’d never seen her before, so I walked up to her and asked “what’s your name?”  And that was the start of a beautiful, crazy friendship. We were living in Torrejon, Spain at the time. She lived in the building right next to mine so I was at her house all the time. I remember walking to her house in the mornings before school and her mother would give us thick hot chocolate and bread or churros (drooling) before we walked to the bus stop. After school we would hang out and play barbies or go explore until the sun started to set. I asked her the other day if she had any pictures of us together, and she said no, were never sat still long enough for a picture to be taken! Isn’t that the truth! We were into any and everything. The stories I could tell lol!

I ended up moving to England and she turned up there probably a year or two later. Our living situation wasn’t as ideal as it had been but we managed to make it work. Her mother did hair and I remember spending the night during the school week ( that’s how close we were…who let’s their kids spend the night on a school night? unheard of lol) and Di decided we were going to color my hair. Her mother had all the right stuff for it after all. The next day I had to go to school with my hair pumpkin orange and I knew when I got home my parents were going to s*#t bricks!! I wanted so bad to put a paper bag over my head and all she says is…I like it! 😀 I don’t know how, but that was a defining moment in my long love of hair coloring lol.

Anyway, we’ve been through a lot. Been together, been apart, had huge fights, made up, talked for days on end and let years pass between letters and phone calls.  Through it all we still have each other’s backs and can still pick up a conversation from 10 years ago like we never stopped talking. I love being able to have a friend who knows what I’m going to say before I even think it. Doesn’t bat an eyelid when I tell her my most outrageous and crazy secrets and can give it to me straight when I am full of crap and can take the same treatment without taking it personal. I am so thankful that I have a friend like that.  So this weekend we will make up for lost time and photo ops!!

If you read this…LYLAS and can’t wait to see you!!

ps: we do have the little matter of “who is Kit Mambo” to clear up 😉
