Well hello Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I had a great time visiting with some friends that I haven’t seen almost all summer. Catching up face to face is always a plus and it leads to great conversation that makes your brain churn with things to think about. That’s what I wanted to chat about today. How many times have you sat down to write and your mind comes up blank? You need to post something but that great idea is just out of reach! It happens to me all the time, and it is so frustrating! So here are some ideas to get your “write” on:
Talk to people~Probably the best way to get writing material. We all have those conversations that you can’t help but share with other people so, why not write it down. It’s funny when it comes to writing I think we get stuck on the notion that no one is going to want to read what we write but actually who cares…obviously someone is interested if you can hold a conversation about what ever the subject is. (Does that make sense?) Talking to friends, family, strangers is a great way to exchange information, hear funny stories or learn something you never knew before. Why not share it?
Reading~ If you are interested in a subject you go out and find information about it, right? Usually that means reading about it or I guess now watching a video is another route you can take. It doesn’t matter, you’re going to explore the subject and do all the work to find out what you want to know, why not share what you learn. Some people will appreciate finding a little blurb about something without going through all the leg work. Plus when you read or learn something new the best way to retain that knowledge is to do something with it. Why not write about it. Use it or lose it, right?
Go out in nature~ Sometimes the best thing to do when you can’t think of anything is to go take a walk. Get out and let your brain take a rest from all the goings on around you. When you get out into nature your brain can kind of reset. Did you know that looking at the patterns in nature, all its symmetry, is relaxing for your brain? So why not take a breather and clear your head. Sometimes when you clear out all the gunk you leave room for the ideas to come flowing in.
For me personally, I get my best ideas when I’m driving. I live in a super green and gorgeous area so I’m always surrounded by the patterns of nature. It’s easy to zone out with my music on and nothing to really think about but driving and for me that’s the best. You’re body kind of goes on autopilot anyway when you drive (honestly, think about the last time you drove, how much do you remember?) so what better time for ideas to sneak in.
Anyway these are just a few things that help me figure out what to write. It’s not as hard as it may seem. We’re all interested in something so just write about what interests you, and don’t worry so much about what others will think about it. Who knows there might be someone out there that really finds your writing to be just up their alley.
Well I gotta run I hope you have an AMAZING Monday! Enjoy the sun if you have it!
