Did you know that being grateful can change the way you think? It’s such a simple thing to do that most people don’t even think about it. Over time being grateful can change your negative attitude into a positive one, give you more energy and help you focus more on achieving your goals.
So many times we are so focused on the negative things that go on around us that we forget about all the good things or just the small basic things. Apparently it’s not our fault that we tend to think that way. I was talking with a therapist and she explained to me that our brains are programmed to pick up on the negative or bad things. The reason for that being that back in the day when life wasn’t so convenient we always had to be on the look out for danger…makes sense. Our brains still do that but we don’t have the type of danger that we had back in the caveman days so it focus’ on anything negative.
The good news is that you can retrain your brain…in several ways and it’s not super hard. You can start with something as simple as being grateful.
Here’s a simple way you can start boosting your gratefulness: In the morning when you wake up still in bed think of 5 things you are grateful for. Do this at night too before you go to bed. Make this a routine everyday and you should start to feel a difference.
